My good friend Todd Tanner is a person of many robust opinions, which he typically shares in his writing. In his newest for Hatch Journal, he takes on a set of commonly-held beliefs about every little thing from flies to rods to general views of the game:
We should always by no means need [fly fishing] to be simple. Why? As a result of once we fish with a fly rod, we’re consciously selecting to make use of gear and methods which can be extra fascinating, and difficult, and — finally — satisfying. We’re choosing a mode of fishing that emphasizes the method over the outcomes. We’re fixing puzzles, and residing within the second, and pushing ourselves to make the absolute best forged and drift. If fly fishing had been simple, it wouldn’t be practically as a lot enjoyable. Always remember that. Our fishing shouldn’t be presupposed to be simple.
